Why Marriage Podcast

With marriage rates hitting an all-time low in the UK (in 2019 the proportion of married adults in England & Wales fell below 50% for the first time), it’s worth asking the question: what have we got to lose as a culture by seeing the decline of this time-honoured institution? What are the impacts on women, men, family and across society as a whole? What (if any) are the differences between this and the UK’s most common relational form, cohabitation?

These are just some of the questions we will be addressing on the podcast!

FamilyLife Team leader, Emma Atkins is joined by some brilliant guests, including the theologian, philosopher, sociologist and feminist Elaine Storkey, Harry Benson, Research Director of the Marriage Foundation, Michaela Hyde, Executive Director of Marriage Foundation, Carter Skeel, Executive Director of Institute for Family Studies, Tony Rucinski, Director of Coalition for Marriage, and Sharoll and Neil Josephson, Directors of FamilyLife Global.

Your host for this vibrant podcast is Emma Atkins.

Emma lives in Cambridge with her husband Jacob and four children, aged 2-9. She has been working with the Christian charity Agapé UK for 12 years, the last 4 of which have been spent on the FamilyLife team. Emma seeks to inspire others to celebrate the goodness of family, treasuring the precious gift of marriage in the midst of all the chaos!

The Why Marriage Podcast will be launching in February next year. If you would like to receive news on this and the many other resources from FamilyLife UK, then you can subscribe to our newsletter here.
