John and Kate Arkell
John and Kate met each other through Kate’s twin sister, Ruth, whilst Kate was nursing in London and John and Ruth were students in Southampton. They had a double wedding in 1974. John is an engineer by training and inclination, enjoying problem-solving and the challenge of making things work. Perseverance has finally paid off with the Merlin – a 16-year hand-built car project – which is now on the road and doesn’t leak in the rain! Kate loves helping other people succeed and enjoys flying the flag for left-handers.
John and Kate are very enthusiastic about family – their three children are all married and between them have produced 15 grandchildren! They are equally committed to seeing the family of Jesus grow and multiply. Wherever they have worked, it has always been a priority to get ‘stuck in’ to their local community, developing networks of relationships where those who don’t yet believe can connect well with those who do.
Until May 2010, John & Kate were on the staff of Agapé having worked in Student and Church Resourcing ministries as well as being involved in FamilyLife. John directed the UK ministry from 1985-91 and brought the team together that gave leadership to the Jesus Video Project and the development of the Mind the Gap evangelism training resource. Now they live in Exeter, on a growing housing development, where John is associate minister of Trinity church.
Mark and Christine Daniel
Mark and Christine are Directors of FamilyLife UK. They are authors of: Together – investing in your marriage; and developed: A Day Together – a seminar for couples. They are international speakers and have spoken to thousands of people on relationship and marriage issues at seminars and in churches; at Spring Harvest Christian festival in the UK and even at an event at the House of Commons!
Prior to joining Agapé to lead FamilyLife Ministry in 2003, Mark was a Sales Director in a number of IT and high tech companies, after having served as an Army Officer at various locations around the world (he used to do Bomb Disposal!) Christine used to be a bank manager, choosing to stay at home after the birth of their first child. They have two grown up daughters. Mark is the extrovert and loves the outdoors; especially offshore sailing, cycling and being with people. Christine keeps Mark under control and is the completer/finisher of the family; she enjoys creative projects, the outdoors and solitude.
Tiny Veltman-Boer has been married to Henk since 1981. They have three daughters of which two are married. Their 18 year old daughter, Renske, still lives with them in the Netherlands. Henk & Tiny lived in Surinam, Latin America for 22 years. They started the Agapé ministry there and worked in different ministries, like the Jesus film, StudentLife, FamilyLife and working with churches. Since 2002 they have been back in the Netherlands, where they were involved in the FamilyLife ministry as well. They really enjoy working together as a couple.
