Look who’s been spotted going into Mac D’s!
Harry, how could you. I heard you deprive your kids of this kind of food for health reasons. Well now you’ve been caught it’ll be a free for all in your home 🤣
We gather for our last briefing all together before today’s ride to York.
There’s something in the air …and not just curry fumes from yesterday.
We’re all excited.
The banter is LOUD.
And even God is joining in. He’s given Tiff a special bible verse of encouragement today.
Andvthis is it …for ‘crying’ read ‘cycling’.
Yep. No more pain or cycling for some after today when a few people leave at York 😪. But three more people from Team North will join us 😆
It’s 10 degrees cooler today. Phil is looking pretty cool in his Endura gear.
Heath posing his Gore shorts.
SHOUT OUT to our brilliant sponsors Gore and Endura. We LOVE your bike wear! ❤️❤️
Ahhh Dave. You can be in the catalogue pics too…
Time to go.
Views this morning a mix of agricultural and industrial. Pretty smelly too. 🤭
But our cyclists aren’t perturbed.
Bums are sore. There are several injuries (minor, so don’t worry) and one person is battling a frozen shoulder (painful).
But we’re a gritty bunch and digging deep …into the chamois cream.
First stop Crowle Community Centre who have kindly opened up their facilities for us.
Suki’s supervising the set up.
That’s better. Now where’s the cake?
Welcome cyclists
What on Earth is that racket?
OH DEAR LORD …it’s Paul being tuneful 🎶🎵
It’s started to rain. Paul now singing: Always look on the bright side of life.
Agreed.
Where’s Marks team?
Nowhere.
WAITING …WAITING…
Phone call from Mark: “we’ve overshot by 1.5 miles and are heading for Costa in Goole.”
No homemade cakes though 😉
Thanks again Alan Rayment for organising and Gary for opening up. Wave goodbye team.
Martin, why are you hiding under a coat???
PEDAL …PEDAL
Local scenery…
Lunch stop is on A19 at Hemingbrough.
Well dome Laura. What a way to celebrate turning 70!!! #NoStoppingHer
Hang on a minute.
Who is this???
A guest. With fur. And a tail. But NOT a dog 😱
Do not let Suki see.
Paul pops to town fryer for some local delicacies. Deep fried spam and chips smothered in vinegar. He’s telling us all this is the northern diet and we have to experience it.
Hmmmm not sure our northern team would agree. Dear readers, let us know…
Veg on the side: pickled onions. 😳
What’s the verdict …
I think it’s a thumbs up from Kana.
Paul is insistent that it’s s balanced diet.
Spam in one hand. Chip in the other.
You’re not looking too well …if I might say so, Paul.
Olivia is trying the “tuna crunch” supermarket roll.
No crunch. #FirstWorldProblem
The rain clouds open again. Great to give the waterproof gear an outing. Mr Gore…
Mr & Mrs Endura.
Ahhhh.
Both TOP BRANDS 🏆🏆
Errrr, Dave, what are you up to on the table?
Oh I see. The poster man is too metrosexual and Dave thinks he’s a more appropriate role model.
Comments anyone???
Rain heavy now. Well done Paul for turning trailer into a cosy cafe. #Ingenious
Time to go.
Next stop YORK!!!
Go team GO
SHOUT OUT for Country Clothes in Hemingbrough for letting us use their loos. #VeryGratefull
We like your horse ❤️
We receive two reports from Kana. Firstly that they’ve stopped near a hedge and she’s had to wait 5 hours for “fatty” and Harry to finish their business behind the hedge.
Who’s Fatty?
It seems they’re also having a moment to reflect and take a photo together …
Dave sends us this…
York
The teams arrive at Yorkminster.
Team North Plus 👏
Who then retire for tea ☺️
And the other teams one by one… (Alasdair’s team pic inside).
Well done everyone 👏👏👏
Heath’s shoes have been ‘christened’. And Ian shows off the dirt spatters.
We’re greeted warmly by Canon Catriona. She’s brought Holy water.
Brilliant Barbara is looking after the bikes.
Victory photo with Canon Catriona…
Whoop!
We did it …TOGETHER!
For God’s glory.
Jane’s here too. The rest of our wonderful support team are at the YHA are unloading bags into rooms. Incredible team! 💪
We retreat to a side chapel for a time of prayer and a Celtic blessing for the travel onward.
Cambridge familylifers …
And team ‘Dodgy Detour’…
More posing of friends…
MEANWHILE …somewhere on the A1 some more cyclists are travelling down from Newcastle.
Dave Mathew with Richard, driving Thunderbird 4.
And three puppies…
Back at YHA Ian is leading a yoga class 😌
After super quick showers we’re off to dinner, in the shadow of beautiful Yorkminster in a golden glow.
There’s a bit of celebration as you can imagine and then speeches and medals for those departing and not riding on to Newcastle. 🍻🍾🥂 🏅🏅🏅
there are medals for all and medals for the most money raised so far, which goes to Martin; mist effort, which goes to Laura and a special mention of Olivia for moaning the most! 😂😂😂
VERY well done to family Coles. Due to being part of Team Dodgy Detour Kana has cycled further than brother Alex (who did London to Paris with us 3 years ago) and her mother. Excellent work Kana. 🏆
Our nighttime walk along the river bank.
Tomorrow is another day and we hit the North Yorkshire Moors, where hills are as steep as cliffs. 😱
Better get some sleep.
Suki’s slot
I’m very disappointed in you Heath. I thought better of you.
In fact I’m extremely ANGRY! How could you cuddle a cat!?!?
Please do not EVER allow one of these creatures near the team. And certainly not near food. That is my prerogative.
Understood?
Over and out.
See you tomorrow. Let’s see how the humans cope with the hills. ⛰
And remember dear readers, the humans are going through all the pain and suffering to raise money for the brilliant Toucan App. There’s more about what the money is for HERE.
If you missed any of the previous day’s adventures you can read about them HERE.
