Churchill doesn’t want to get up.
I can hear you thinking, who’s Churchill?
Apart from our WW2 Prime Minister, Churchill is Mrs G’s bedtime snuggly.
SHHHHH. Don’t tell anyone!
Mrs G is a fiercely independent and strong woman so she wouldn’t want anyone knowing about Churchill. 😉
Well, maybe only her friends.
This is Kana’s face when her mum told her we were doing about 70 miles today.
Sorry Kana, but I’ve got to laugh. 😂😂😂
And there’s exciting news.
In the last 3 days our donations have gone up from 76% of target …to 81%. 🎉
That’s WONDERFUL news. THANK YOU if you’ve already made a donation.
And now for something completely different.
Laura has made a presentation to us on behalf of the Nicaraguan Ambassador in London to wish us all the very best. 2 lovely Toucans and a VERY SPECIAL cigar (better than Cuban, apparently).
Lil has bunches to help her keep cool today. (Lucy – she says they’re inspired by you.)
Oh goodness. Here they go again.
Stretch and bend and …
All stretched and limbered up. Time to go.
Support team hard at it.
Lunch today. Crisps and an orange.
The countryside is flat today. Flat as a pancake. The good thing is they’re motoring along.
And here we are at Ely Cathedral.
What a fabulous rest stop …in the shadow of such an amazing building.
Suki is crumb collecting …her favourite place.
Mark: “its only 10:20 and they’re already complaining.”
And laughing their heads off.
Lil: “bunches keep you cooler.”
…and they look so cute.
Time to go into the cathedral for the tour.
Our guide, Barbara, is working hard to condense a 45 min tour into 30 mins.
It’s hard to describe how amazing the building is. #YouHaveToVisit
The cyclists are mentioned in the hourly prayers. Thank you Ely and Amen.
It may be hard to see but the Window above this door depicts Æthelthryth.
Here’s an image from Wikipedia/British Museum. Æthelthryth was a princess and founded the monastery in 670 with a land gift from her husband the king. Apparently the marriage was never consummated so he was able to divorce her. She was then wed to a 12 year old (another strategic alliance) but this marriage wasn’t consummated either so she became Abbess and later a saint. For geeks check out wiki page 😉
To this day no one can grasp how this amazing building was engineered and built. It is amazing.
Light of God coming down…
Choir stalls. Team behaving well (or so we thought – check out Suki’s slot at the end).
Finally we’re in the Lady’s chapel. The ‘everywoman’ statue depicts a strong Mary …another formidable woman.
The table below reflects the “protesting faith” – The Word of God …grace and truth.
We sing “Amazing Grace” and the sound of our voices echoes around the chapel. It’s a beautiful moment, very moving.
Byeeeee. We’ll come again.
We’re into Fenland now.
Below seawater, but the Dykes keep the water contained.
Lunch. Another marvellous shady spot, courtesy of Mrs G spending 3 weeks researching on google earth.
Suki knows the dog lovers.
Everyone is digging deep in searing heat. Again.
But they are a positive bunch.
Great job all.
Fenland windmills and harvesting.
Northern Plus Team at cake stop.
…and the children having a water fight.
Apparently you deserve it, Dave!!!
Hello Richard’s brother, Adrian. Thanks for coming by to cheer us on.
We’re in Lincolnshire and there are pretty villages.
At last we’re at our overnight stop. #Phew.
Time to cool down.
Welcome to YHA Thurlby…
Time to chill out.
Ian’s leading the stretching.
A few are enjoying hugging the trees 🌳🌳❤️❤️
Ahhhh, lovely Lil.
And Heath too.
Bye for now, Stephen.
Suki here. I feel it’s important to share a few inside stories…
Check out the wound…
Olivia: “can I be let off today? I’m wounded!”
I think Kana is wondering if she could do bunches like a Lil.
And finally, it must be something to do with the Cole family…
whilst all the GOOD children were sitting nicely in the Cathedral, Alasdair was shaking his legs about.
Here he is scampering quietly to join the rest of us.
I DO LOVE ALL THE COLES…three fun humans.
But this is my favourite picture of the day.
In case you missed them, here are links to blogs for Day 1 (now with all photos added) and Day 2.
